Michelle Merlino Deputy Clerk Publish: Port Orchard Independent November 20,2002 Kitsaple~als~,sounduublishine.com ORDINANCE NO. 1874 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON SETTING THE AMOUNT OF PROPERTY TAXES TO BE RAISED FOR THE YEAR 2003 WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard, with a population under ten thousand (10,000). retains the ability to raise property taxes up to one percent per year; and WHEREAS, notice was given for the annual public hearing on revenue sources held on October 28, 2002 to consider the City of Port Orchard's current expense and street budget for the 2003 calendar year pursuant to RCW 84.55.120, and WHEREAS, on November 6, 2001 registered voters in the City of Port Orchard and Kitsap County Fire Protection District No. 7 approved Proposition No. 2 to annex the properties located within the jurisdictional boundaries of the City of Port Orchard into Kitsap County Fire Protection District No. 7. WHEREAS, it is the City of Port Orchards desire that the maximum amount of property tax allowed be collected for the year 2003, now, therefore, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: There shall be and hereby is levied on all real, personal and utility property, whose estimated assessed valuation is four hundred twenty-one million, seven hundred forty-four thousand and fifty-five dollars ($421,744,055) current taxes for the year commencing January 1, 2003 at the approximate rate of $2.16 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. The regular property tax levy for collection in 2003 is approximately nine hundred ten thousand nine hundred sixty-seven dollars ($910,967), plus an additional dollar amount equal to the amount allowed under the new construction, improvements to property and any increase in the value of state-assessed property, by provisions of RCW 84.55.010. This is a decrease of approximately four hundred sixty-five thousand eight hundred forty-three dollars ($465,843) over the collection in 2002 which was at a levy rate of $3.375 in an amount of one million three hundred seventy-six thousand eight hundred ten dollars ($1,376.810), due to the annexation of the City of Port Orchard into Kitsap County Fire Protection District No. 7. the City Clerk in authentication of such passage this 12' day of N PASSED by the City Council of the Citi of Port 0 by the Mayor and attested by ATTEST: LESLIE J.
