A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN
THE UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SERVICE,
UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDY OF
EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI AFFECTS IN SINCLAIR
INLET.
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard is located along Sinclair Inlet; and
WHEREAS, the potential for a significant seismic event exists and the City of Port
Orchard needs to be prepared for such an occurrence; and
WHEREAS, the University of Washington, United States Geological Service, National
Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, and Sea Grant have selected the Sinclair Inlet community to do a
detailed scientific study of the effects of an earthquake generated tsunami in this body of water; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON:
THAT: The Port Orchard staff shall cooperate with the
Earthquake/Tsunami Hazardous Reduction Project. Cooperation
will include sharing data, records, and staff time, as appropriate.
Financial participation is not authorized without specific City
Council approval.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the Mayor and
attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 26~ day of February 2001.
