A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON, ESTABLISHING A POLICY TO NOT REFUND
WATER -SEWER UTILITY OVERPAYMENTS OF FIVE DOLLARS
($5.00) OR LESS.
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard currently processes closing utility bills to prior
property owners and receives overpayments in the amount of five dollars ($5.00) or less; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard's policy of the utilities is to process closing
bills and issue refunds; and
WHEREAS, the apparent pattern is that checks under five dollars ($5.00) are not
always cashed by the recipients for various reasons; and
WHEREAS, the cost of processing these checks exceeds the face value, and
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
That the City of Port Orchard's policy of the utilities is to not issue refund amounts
of five dollars ($5.00) or less unless specifically requested within 60 days by the
recipient.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the
Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passag is 14th day of July, 1997.
