1705 - Resolution - Use of Private Vehicles for Law EnforcementRESOLUTION NO. 1705 V A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON ESTABLISHING A POLICY REGARDING USE OF PRIVATE VEHICLES FOR CITY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS RESPONDING TO POLICE SITUATIONS WHILE "OFF DUTY". WHEREAS, City of Port Orchard Police Department General Order 85-11 (Revised 11-09-94) Sec. XL (d) addresses Police Officers responding to Police Situation while "Off Duty", and, WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish a policy to provide clarification regarding police officer use of private vehicles when responding to police situations while "off duty", and, WHEREAS, the City desires to provide indemnification by the City for Police Officer privately owned vehicles only if damaged while acting within the scope of their duty as a law enforcement officer to observed illegal activity occurring within the Port Orchard city limits. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Port Orchard does hereby adopt the following policy on the "Use of Private Vehicles for Responding to Police Situation While "Off Duty": Use of Private Vehicles for Responding to Police Situations While "Off Duty" The city agrees to indemnify its police officers for losses to their privately owned vehicles, if damaged while acting in the scope of their duty as a police officer, to observed illegal activity occurring within the Port Orchard City limits PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 14th day of August, 1995.
