1438 - Resolution - Eligibility for National Flood Insurance ProgramRESOLUTION NO. 1438 RESOLUTION OF INTENT OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON TO ESTABLISH ELIGIBILITY FOR THE NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM (Flood Insurance Act of 1968) WHEREAS, as certain areas of Port Orchard are subject to periodic flooding from Blackjack Creek and Puget Sound; and WHEREAS, relief is available in the form of Federal subdsidized flood insurance as authorized by the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968; and WHEREAS, it is the intent of the City Council to require, .recognize and evaluate flood hazards in all official action relating to land use in special flood hazard areas; and WHEREAS, the City Council has the legal authority to adopt land use and control measures to reduce future flood loses. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT the Port Orchard City Council does hereby: 1. Petition Federal Emergency Management Federal Insurance Administration to establish eligibility in the National Flood Insurance Program; and 2. Assure the Federal Insurance Administration that it will enact and maintain in fo,r-ce all: necessary regulations for those areas having flood hazard; and 3. Agrees to take such other official action as may be reasonably necessary to carry out objectives of the flood insurance program. PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, SIGNED by the Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 22nd day of December, 1986.
