1302 - Resolution - Naming Viaduct the William J. "Bill" Nelson ViaductRESOLUTION NO. 1302
WHEREAS 1983 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of
William.J. Nelson to a pioneer South Kitsap family, and*
WHEREAS said William J. Nelson was'a long-time resident
of the Mitchell Hill District of Port Orchard, and .�
WHEREAS said William J. Nelson was a long -tire builder
of public roads in Kitsap County, and
WHEREAS said William J Nelson was elected Kitsap
County Commissioner for the South Kitsap District in 1940
and in 1942 for the six years then allowed, serving
through 1946, and
WHEREAS said William J. Nelson helped guide the county
through the troubled and hectic years of World War II,
and
WHEREAS an old timber bridge on Mitchell Avenue was
demolished and replaced by a concrete viaduct under his
supervision in 1946, and
WHEREAS this concrete structure still serves the people
of his community, now let it therefore. be
RESOLVED that the viaduct henceforth shall be.named the
WILLIAM J. "BILL" NELSON VIADUCT and appropriate signs
be placed so marking it.
