September-Port Orchard Recovery MonthPROCLAMATION Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life. So therefore: WHEREAS: mental and substance use disorders affect all communities nationwide, but with commitment and support, people with these disorders can achieve healthy lifestyles and lead rewarding lives in recovery; and WHEREAS: the impact of mental health and substance use disorders is apparent in Port Orchard and South Kitsap communities; and WHEREAS: by seeking help, people who experience mental and/or substance use disorders can embark on a new path toward improved health and overall wellness; and WHEREAS: the focus of National Recovery Month this September is to celebrate their journey with the theme "Join the Voices for Recovery: lnvest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community". This 2018 theme explores how integrated care, a strong community, sense of purpose, and leadership contributes to effective treatments that sustain the recovery of persons with mental and substance use disorders; and WHEREAS: through Recovery Month, people become more aware and able to recognize the signs of mental health and substance use disorders, which can lead more people into needed treatment; and WHEREAS: managing the effects of these conditions can help people achieve healthy lifestyles, both physically and emotionally; and WHERAS: The Recovery Month observance continues to work to improve the lives of those affected by mental and/or substance use disorders by raising awareness and education our community about the prevention, treatment and recovery resources that are available. NOW, THEREFORE, BE lT RESOLVED that l, Robert Putaansuu, Mayor of the City of Port Orchard, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2018 as: Port Orchard Recovery Month And call upon all of our residents of the Port Orchard to join me in celebrating our local programs that focus on Recovery, Treatment and Prevention.
