January 16, 2017-Martin Luther King, Jr. DayPROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard joins the Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal
Church in its 23'd Annual Day of observing the life and legacy of the late Revered Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, this year's "Why We Can't Wait" theme is a great opportunity for us to
celebrate Reverend King's commitment to humanity, community, nonviolence, justice,
education and service; and
WHEREAS, I applaud their efforts and hold them up as an example of what Dr. King
stood for and how we can confirm by our actions that Dr. King's dream is still alive;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Robert Putaansuu, Mayor of the City of Port
Orchard, do hereby proclaim Monday, January 16, 2017 as:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Celebration
in the City of Port Orchard, and urge its citizens to honor the memory of Dr. King by
showing love and respect for one another and with all the unselfish acts we undertake
benefitting our community.
